I studied with a middle-aged-man

I learned English from a tutor in the university. His name is Rolen. He is a Catholic brother and he belongs to SVD (Divine Word Missionary), which is a communion. SVD is in about seventy countries and the number of group is about seven thousands in the world. The purpose of establishing is help, share, care, feed, love, listen and mercy. SVD is different from NGO and NPO but some contents of action are similar to them. Actually, I didn’t have good image about communion before but it changed because I was with him for four months. I spent most of time with him except for my classes. We went to a trip a few times together also. He introduced his friends to me and I could make a lot of friends. I kept going with forty-two years old middle-aged man.

During the class, he often talked about Catholic for most of time. I understood it and concentrated study first because he is a Catholic. But I couldn’t bear listening to him and I asked him to teach English. I was sure that I told him that I wanted to learn about the Philippines through studying English. But he didn’t listen to me and he was biased to Catholic so I complained about it. I thought it was proper claim because I paid the money. He corrected his attitude when I told him but after a few days he was back before and we repeated it. He held the farewell party for me before leaving. There were a lot of students participated in SVD’s activities there. He gave me the opportunity to speak in front of them. I spoke out that I wanted him to listen to me more. I expected him to change his attitude because students were there. I suggested to him I present the report about the Philippines at our final class. He listened to me carefully at that time and he told me that ‘you used to use ‘’I think’’ before when you speak but you use ‘’I feel’’ now’. I think Japanese have the habit to think a lot to care about the other people when they speak. I can say what I want to say now in case of English because of him and I understood English language more.

There are some prohibited things like women, alcohol and so on as SVD member. They can’t be married as well. They stay together with around fifteen people. Catholics really rely on church. There is a mass in the university every Sunday and there a lot of people there. I used to send text messages to Filipino friends. At times, they sent unfamiliar messages. I guess these messages were the words from Bible. I couldn’t understand but I could feel these were welcome words. I heard that the more people are rich, the more they don’t rely on religions. I thought poor people help more poor people through a church and SVD is in between them. Actually I don’t know about Catholic well yet but at least I got Filipino friends like Rolen.
