A Journey with Hitchhike in Turkey

Nothing was there. It’s just high road. There was just gas station there. It was 2 am. I was wandering. It was cold.

‘’Hey, here is your destination’’ I believed he said so. The young courier woke me up. I went to way down of the bus. The driver opened the door. ‘’Just wait. Where is here?’’ I was in the bus from Van, where is one of the cities in Turkey, for Cappadocia. “”There is nothing to go!”” They didn’t understand English though I said so with anger. “”Please go to a city. Where is a bus terminal? I wanna go to Cappadocia”” I was really desperate with many gestures. “”No terminal, no city”” They looked fed up with interchange with me. I never wanted to go into that cold weather. “”I need to go to a city!”” I asked him to move on. I couldn’t find a city, even a restaurant. We were leaving from where is supposed to be Cappadocia. After moving about 3 kilometers, I found a signboard which is written “”Bus Terminal”” “”Now I’m saved”” “”Please stop here, I’ll get off”” I got off. I couldn’t find the bus terminal from there. I didn’t know how far from there to the bus terminal. I had no choice at that time. I started walking from high road to the way. After 10 minutes walking I heard cries of dogs. The road had street lights but this light was faint. The cries were from the dark. I could feel the cries became loudly as I approached. I realized they were three. The cries made me think that they would bite me. I decided to go back to high road. There was only one road for the bus terminal but there was no choice. I really wanted to avoid to be bitten. It was 2:30 am. It was cold.

“”That’s a car!”” I saw a car on the road. “”Hey!”” I waved but the car passed though as if I wasn’t there. I came back to high road. It was dark and cold. I didn’t have any warm cloths because I came here from Iran which was hot. I was at a loss what to do for a while. I had to find a place to stay until morning. I decided to hitch. Many cars passed through with high speed. Most of cars were trucks for long way. After 20 minutes one truck stopped beyond over 200 meters from where I stood. “”Somebody found me!?”” I picked my backpack, which is over 10 kilogram, and small rucksack on the road and ran toward the car. I looked in the car from passenger’s seat. “”I wanna go to a city!”” I put my baggage to the seat and entered into the car. He was really like driver and I could guess he was around 40 years. “”I wanna go to a city or bus terminal!”” “”No city, no bus terminal”” “”It’s impossible! I saw the signboard! Please follow the signboard!”” He explained with gesture that there was no way for bus terminal. I didn’t want to stay at the street. “”I wanna go to a city, anyway, I wanna enter any warm place! I’m really cold!”” The truck started moving. There was nothing, it’s just wilds. I could find a light. It was a gas station. The truck moved with high speed. “”Please stop!”” There was no time to hesitate. I would miss the opportunity if I hesitated to say stop because there was only 20 seconds to think about it. “”This is it”” I expressed my thanks and got off the car.

This gas station had a small store. There was no hot food and drink, and a heater as well. “”I really feel cold, don’t you have any hot food or something?”” “”No”” He was cool. I was really cold. “”Can I stay in resting room?”” “”No”” I could see a car once every 5 minutes in the gas station. “”Hitch again?”” I said to myself. By the way, a gas station is good place to hitch because I can talk to people directly at least. Unbelievably I could catch a car in only 5 minutes. “”I’m so lucky!”” I was really happy and closed in roundly. How could I believe? The car left me. I guessed that the car left me because I closed in roundly. After that I couldn’t catch any car for one hour. I talked to about 10 drivers. Cappadocia is located on out of the high road so there was no car for there. Asian guy who was looking for a car was really strange, I thought. “”Ok, come on”” This car was 11th I talked to. They were men around 30 years old. They said they could go to part of the way. I got off at the road for Cappadocia. It was 5 am. I walked for Cappadocia. I found a police station. “”I wanna go to Cappadocia!”” “”You can take a bus in front of this station””

Dozens of balloons floated with its lamp and rocks in Cappadocia in the dark at early morning. The fantastic scene gave me some feeling I can’t explain. “”Hitching is not so bad”” Traveling is so interesting, isn’t it?
